Darwin DiverCity Series
The Darwin DiverCity Series was created in 2020 initially as a promotion; and after just a few discounted sessions, I contacted the original clients to gift them extra images as I decided from there on - I would be doing free sessions to a special number of people to share their stories and images.
I was eager to capture so many different cultures in Darwin. It then grew to all walks of life, to celebrate what makes Darwin so special. This project was inspired by my own family, where I never had the opportunity to share my grandfather's stories or hear directly from them while they were still alive.
I have spent much time on this project since 2020, and have photographed the chosen individuals free of charge while documenting their stories. Sadly, a few have since passed away and now is more important than ever to share their stories and images.
The exhibition was a massive success in August of 2024, with over 250 people in just the opening night followed by a busy week while it was open. All members received the exhibition print as a gift, free of charge, printed locally in Darwin.

About Georgia Politis
I am a second-generation Darwin born Greek woman proud to call the Territory my home. My grandparents migrated to the Territory in the 60’s, and my parents were then born in the early 70’s; going through Cyclone Tracy.
I am 30 years old, and grew up in the northern suburbs of Darwin; living in Nakara and now Leanyer. Married to another large Darwin-born Greek family, my husband and I love our outdoor adventures and the beach.
Both grandfathers; Michael Tomazos and George Famelos, passed away young. I never got to hear their stories in person; and wished I had more photographs with them in the short time I had. They were both very well known in my community.
I have always had a passion for culture; and a yearning for helping other people. Deciding that the DiverCity Series was going to be an ongoing community passion project was the best thing I have ever done.
I have met so many people over the years, some who are no longer with us, who have amazing stories behind them. The Darwin DiverCity Series is to inspire, raise awareness, remember people and most of all- retain the multicultural city we all love.
